Grundlagen einer Kulturgeschichte des Antisemitismus

Rumor and Violence – Foundations of a Cultural History of Anti-Semitism

The arts serve as influential repositories of knowledge for antisemitic narratives and images, which are preserved there over long periods of time and thus remain accessible. Antisemitic motifs and narratives are thus embedded in many and very diverse linguistic and visual media. There, they are not only preserved but also transformed by being adapted to the respective contemporary needs and circumstances. At the same time, antisemitism is often overlooked in artistic contexts and cultural institutions. The publication *Rumor and Violence*, named after the workshop series of the same name organized by the Institute for New Social Sculpture, provides an introduction to the history and present-day reality of antisemitism in the arts. The first volume of the Institute for New Social Sculpture’s series of texts on the critique of antisemitism and culture is aimed at staff members of cultural institutions as well as artists who wish to incorporate the critique of antisemitism into their work.
